PROSPECT CEMETERY

The land for this cemetery was donated by
James Switzer.
The name on the original municipal map
is Prospect Cemetery
but it is known as the Mankota MunicipaI Cemetery
and occasionally called the Switzer Cemetery.
Robert McNab was the first burial.
He died during the winter
and was buried when the ground thawed
in the spring (1912).
The cemetery was surveyed on Sept. 18th & 19th 1916.
The location was approved in Regina July 12, 1920.
It is in the extreme northeast corner of Se 25-5-8-W3rd.
Early records were kept by writing
the name on the original map.
These names have faded with time.
It is believed James Switzer first kept the map .
Charles Fewings kept the map
when he was councillor for Mankota R.M.45.
In the late 1950's the map was given
to the new councillor, Jim Wilson.
The records now consist of the original map
plus black, sixty page, hard-covered notebook.
This book was complied by
Allen and Mildred Thomson, McCord, Sask.
in the early 1970's.
Each "block" is drawn on an individual page,
detailed with "sections".
Names are written on "plots".
There are no dates in this book.
The legend in the front of this book
states about plots listed as,
(1) UNKNOWN: There is a grave but no marker;
(2) There seems to be a grave, but it was just a guess;
There are 49 graves or plots listed as "Unknown".
There are 45 graves or plots listed as "?".
There are 139 graves or plots listed with names.
